  • Details
This Edwin James Drew Bodley 19th Century Staffordshire Bouillon Bowl with Saucer is stunning and would be a perfect addition to your English china collection! The registry mark of 1881 and the Maker's Initials EJDB (Edwin James Drew Bodley) can be seen on the underside of the saucer.

“Many of Edwin James Drew Bodley designs drew on the Aesthetic Movement which flourished in the latter half of the 19th century, emphasising "art for art's sake," focusing on beauty and form rather than political or social messages.
Bodley’s market was the growing middle class, who wanted to furnish their homes with beautiful, art-inspired pieces. Although the firm eventually declined in the late 1890s their ware remains a part of the legacy of the Aesthetic Movement and the development of decorative arts in England.”
Our saucer is 6.5" in diameter;the cup is 4.25" in diameter x 2.5" tall. The blue and white imagery of a heron in its reeded environment is outstanding- the “feathered” designed base signifies the aesthetic movement. There are no chips or cracks. There is wear to the gold rim gilt which is reflective of age and use. Please
