    If this book could talk.......
Discovered in a cute (but VERY busy) thrift shop in Nantucket this summer...it was calling to us....
Gordon Stables (the author) was a Naval doctor as well as a popular Scottish author of juvenile maritime adventures. Margaret E. Ballantyne (1854-1934) was the daughter of the Washington, D.C. bookseller William Ballantyne (1825–1906) who summered in Siasconset, Nantucket. He was an integral part of the late-19th-century summer community in Siasconset (the eastern village of Nantucket). William was born in Scotland and immigrated to the United States. By the late 1800s, he had established himself as a successful and highly prominent resident in Washington, D.C., where he ran a major bookstore, publishing, and stationery business. Looking to escape the sweltering Washington summers, William brought his family to Siasconset, Nantucket. At the time, "Sconset" was transforming from a rugged fishing village into a tight-knit summer colony favored by actors, writers, and professionals.......

Such a neat book to find and research!!!!
It would be a great gift to any bibliophile who loves maritime adventures!
