Outstanding 19th c. Coushatta/Seminole Lidded Pine Needle Coiled Pedestal Basket- Native American/South/Louisiana/Alabama/Florida

$385.00

  • Details
This Basket is a stunning example of 19th century Native American basket weaving- gorgeously crafted from longleaf pine needles and split-stitched together with palm raffia. The interior tells the story of the original coloration of the basket with coils of naturally dyed red and green; the exterior has darkened to a rich chocolate brown only achieved by age. The coils are very tight; and the original lid fits perfectly. There is wear from use (spice storage?), a slight tilt at the base, and raffia loss to the outer most coil of the pedestal. It measures 7" tall x 6.25" in diameter. This basket is delightful and would be an excellent addition to your Native American collection.
