DetailsThis Lovely LARGE 19th century Penobscot Bay Coastal Maine Hand dyed Potato Stamped Basket is available to you! Made by the very talented Eastern Woodland Native American Abenaki living in the coastal Maine Penobscot region in the 19th century- it is a large lidded basket at approximately 14" x 14" x 13.5". It features vegetable dyed square slats of splint with potato stamps of floral and fern motifs in faint gold and burnt orange. . The black ash splint appears to be in good condition considering age and use- there are some breaks, a particularly large 3" break to one top corner which can not be seen when the lid is on (please see our last 2 photos) but, amazingly, the basket sides are strong and the bottom corners are still intact- the basket is very sturdy with a wonderful rich brown patina.
